joining us from California bringing a PowerPoint presentation about her predecessor and the little girl from Tonawanda - Gladys Parker.
Gladys was born March 21,
1908. Raised in the Tonawandas, then after High School took her sewing machine and talent to the Big Apple and on to Los Angeles where she was a fashion designer in Hollywood and added her wit to
cartoons like “Flapper Fanny” and created her own comic character “Mopsy” the sharp dresser with a tongue to
match. “Mopsy” would run over three decades.
Trina Robbins will give us
an unusual perspective on Gladys Parker’s life as only another cartoonist/fashion designer can do.
Join us to celebrate
Gladys Parker’s birthday with dinner by Jim Fingerlow’s “Just Say Cheesecake”, enjoy our speaker, and view an original dress designed by Gladys, along with a selection of her cartoon work. The tete a
tete between Mopsy’s male characters are clever and speak to the era of jazz and flappers and even WWII.
